The Glass Quilt

This project was first conceived in the aftermath of COVID’s isolation as a way to connect with glass artists from around the world who felt othered by the elitism of the fine art world.

Much like quilt-making, glass has long been relegated to “craft” and its artistry has been almost completely absent from prestigious institutions. Oswald seeks to broaden the conversation of what constitutes fine art by creating a piece so large that it cannot be ignored.

The Quilt was a grassroots community project that started Korinas path down community led pieces. In 2022 Korina put a call out to artists to join her in creating something together, The only guideline was to make something that fit the circle/square pattern. No design limitations or experience requirements. There was also not a plan on how pieces would be assembled together. Once the participants began sending their submissions back the quilt began to take life.

Participants paid no fee to be in the project and helped make it possible by sending extra supplies, buying from wishlists, and donating their time to the completion of the piece.
